This workshop aims to address both regional and national initiative perspectives and seeks to foster a cohesive approach to sustainable marine and coastal management in Indonesia.
Blue carbon has received a lot of attention on this front in recent years. High-quality blue carbon projects are being recognized for their stackable benefits, offering social and environmental investment in the form of nature-positive, sustainable fisheries and infrastructure that all lead to blue carbon ecosystem conservation and restoration. However, one of the successes of blue carbon initiatives relies on coordination and collaborative partnerships. Especially with the alignment of the national and regional plan.
At the sub-national level, provinces like West Java play a critical role in shaping and implementing blue economy strategies that align with both national policies and local needs. West Java, with its rich marine biodiversity and extensive coastline, serves as a prime example of how a tailored blue economy framework can support sustainable development. Simultaneously, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment has signed a Letter of Intent with the World Economic Forum on the establishment of the National Blue Carbon Action Partnership ( NBCAP ) to support the Indonesian government’s ambition to restore and preserve blue carbon ecosystems in Indonesia.
